Looking after your jewellery during the festive season…

The festive season and summer holidays are a great time to wear and enjoy your jewellery, and we have 5 top tips for keeping it safe and looking great:

Screen Shot 2015-12-07 at 3.49.36 pm1) Avoid wearing your jewellery in chlorinated or salt water pools. The chlorine can discolour and damage gold and silver, and can also damage gemstones and pearls. It’s best not to wear it at the beach either as the sand can swallow jewellery faster than anything else we know of! If your jewellery becomes damaged, feel free to bring it in to our studio and we can help you figure out how to return it to its original glory.

2) Wipe your pearl jewellery (necklaces, earrings, pendants, rings) with a soft cloth, like a handkerchief, when you take them off to remove perfume, hairspray and perspiration – the alcohol in these can damage and eat away the natural nacre that gives pearls their stunning lustre.

3) Make sure your jewellery valuations and insurance are up-to-date – nothing ruins the festive season like losing a precious piece and not being able to replace it.

4) Check the silk thread that your pearls are threaded on to – Screen Shot 2014-12-16 at 9.27.41 pmare the pearls moving around a lot between the knots, or is the thread dirty? If yes, it will be time to have them rethreaded in the new year, to keep them looking their best.

2015-christmas-collection-hero5) Silver jewellery, like our beautiful Christmas Collection, always looks gorgeous in summer – if silver jewellery is looking a bit dull or dark, come and see us for a complimentary silver polishing cloth. It’ll have your silver looking gorgeous in no time.

If you have any questions about any of our tips, or need any other information about jewellery, please call us at the studio on 08 8338 3109 or email us at hello@pike.com.au

Wishing you a very safe, happy and fun festive season!
