The PIKE difference: Nicholas’ designs

This month, one of our readers asked us to share Nicholas’ recent drawings and designs, and we are thrilled to share some.

design7An important part of the unique experience of having a piece of jewellery made at PIKE is being presented with the beautiful hand drawings that Nicholas does for every customer. This has been something that he has done since he started his first business 40 years ago, and they are an essential element of this family business. They help customers to visualise the amazing possibilities as they consider having something made, and also serve as an important tool for Matthew as he translates the concepts into the real thing.

There are times when Nicholas is able to imagine a number of design possibilities, especially when re-designing customer’s own jewellery where they decide to combine many older pieces into one. Other times, he will have one very clear vision. The drawings are always a result of consultation with customers: finding out what styles they like, what colour metals, what gemstones and diamonds they like and so on. It’s a fascinating part of the process, and we always look forward to showing customers the designs.

In a lot of cases, customers will bring in a collection of jewellery they no longer wear, and ask Nicholas to re-imagine a new life for it all, like the photos show below:

The ring below was the result of a customer’s brief to combine many different shaped diamonds, with a stunning finished ring (click here to read the manufacturing story of this gorgeous ring).design2

As Nicholas explains in this month’s blog (click here to read it), his creative mind is always in overdrive and he never tires of designing beautiful new pieces –  they are always distinctive and all have the unmistakable PIKE look, as you will see from the examples below.

If you have any jewellery that you would love to have re-designed, pop in to the studio workshop, or call us on 8338 3109. Nicholas would love to show you what he can do!
